Children's Programming Mascot

A cartoon draft horse named "Bjorn"

"Bjorn" began as an idea inspired by a national museum conference Kelli attended in 2010.

Mascots helped other museums achieve their objectives for children's programming, so why not Ephraim Village Museums?

The mascot needed to be an integral part of Ephraim's past and a symbol children could relate to. Choosing a draft horse was easy, since draft horses assisted early settlers with clearing trees and heavy limestone rocks as fields were prepared for planting in the mid-to late-1880s.

Kelli Torpey found a local artist named Michael McCartney to assist us.  Since he was a well-established artist, Bjorn's creation was almost effortless as we prepared for the 2010 season

And Bjorn will return for 2011.  The next time you see him at the Barn, notice his large hoof prints on the floor, then follow them to the Hands-On Hayloft and see what surprises await you!

Purchase a "Bjorn Buddy" button for $ 8 and come to Anderson Barn's Hands-On Hayloft as many times as you like in one summer & fall season. (Each child needs to be accompanied by a paying adult or guardian).

Children can play old-fashioned games, try on period clothing and play with the new puppet theater and barn animal puppets.

We look forward to seeing you in 2012!
