The Ephraim Historical Foundation needs volunteers to help us run our many programs each summer! There are also plenty of non-program related opportunities to help out, too. Students can use their volunteer hours toward community service requirements, as appropriate for their school. Please take a look at the Volunteer Opportunities for this year and consider donating a few hours of your time. Thank you!
If you would like to volunteer for any of these activities or programs, please e-mail Program and Marketing Director Kelli C. Torpey (ktorpey@ephraim.org) or call the Ephraim Historical Foundation office at (920) 854-9688.
Archiving Help: We are in need of volunteers to help maintain a clip file of our local newspapers, and also to aid Sally in the sorting, cleaning, and filing of archival materials and artifacts.
Costumes Cleaning & Organization: This ongoing task would involve the coordination, cleaning, ironing, and organization of our sizeable collection of historic costumes and clothing. Perfect for a person who is interested in antique clothing.
Child's Play: This summer event for children ages 4-8 takes place over four Thursday mornings at 10:30 am in late June and July. Children read a book together as a group and then create a craft that pertains to the story they have just read. Tasks would include organizing the event in the morning with Child's Play coordinator Barb Fox and helping the children with their crafts.
Children's Encounter with History: We will need assistants for this new program allowing children the opportunity to dress in period clothing, perform chores, lessons and play games of children in the 1900s - 1910 and 1930s. Dates are Wed, June 23 & Wed, Aug. 4 -- 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Locations will vary.
Docent Partners: Big desire to be involved but short on time? Send in a check to support the Foundation's efforts in staffing the buildings with paid docents. Join this very successful effort, started in 2005, that helps keep our Museums open to the public.
Distribution Partner: Distribution of our posters and brochures throughout Door County requires the efforts of many. If you don't have time to help us pass out brochures or posters, then please send in a check to support Paper Boy with our distribution. Each poster costs us $ 1.00, so spreading the word is costly!
Exhibit Reception Help: 2010's changing exhibit in the Anderson Barn will be "The Clothes Make the Wo(Man)". It will include costumes, many of which are related to local Ephraim families. We hope many members and Ephraim residents & visitors will attend the Friday evening reception, June 18. We will need help setting up food and decorations for the event.
Fyr Bal Trolley Docents: We are in need of costumed docents to ride the Fyr Bal trolley on Saturday, June 19. Even if you have only an hour to spare on this busy weekend, we'd sure like your help in sharing our village's history with riders on the Door County Trolley!
Mailing Help: We're always looking for help with mailings – and we have quite a few of them during the spring and summer months! Our mailing list is small enough that a few volunteers can usually complete one of our mailings in an afternoon.
Programming Volunteer: We have an urgent need for a person or two who is willing to help us set up for our various programs like the Ephraim Sing-Alongs, and History Speaks – We will need to set up chairs in the Village Hall, helping with nametags or picking up supplies.
Christmas in Ephraim or Annual Holiday Potluck: This is a festive, fun time of the year and allows us time to enjoy the food and good company of others. We need help setting up Village Hall, decorating and helping Rachel Willems with various stations (ie, decorating cookies, drawing and more).
Opening/Closing of Buildings/Adopt a Building: Another area in which your help would be greatly appreciated. We need volunteers to help open the Ephraim Village Museums in spring (late April/early May), and to put them to bed in the fall (mid to late October). We are also looking for any interested volunteers that would be willing to "Adopt a Building" and be responsible for its care and maintenance throughout the summer and fall months.
