Why We Give: Tony & Prilla Beadell

Why have Prilla and I made a provision in our will for the Ephraim Historical Foundation?

For me, the story begins 60 years ago with not only my introduction to Ephraim but arriving in Milwaukee to find the powers-to-be had moved to demolish the stunning and iconic, Romanesque-style Chicago & Northwestern Depot built in 1890--the very one I had passed through many times as a Lawrence university student coming from Chicago. While I already was a student of history, I at that moment became passionate about historical preservation. Prilla’s story is similar.

Upon her arrival in Milwaukee, Prilla discovered Wisconsin Heritages and became active in promoting its mission to save the historic Pabst Mansion from planned demolition and later served among its first docents when opened to the public in 1976. Prilla also, a great great granddaughter of Ole Larsen, loved spending her childhood summers in Ephraim discovering its many wonders. Preservation was in her blood as both her parents while running Shorewood Lodge and Cottages became very active in the community. At the same time, they committed themselves to the mission of the EHF, Charles Larsen as president 1967-1969 and Marcia Larsen managing renovation efforts at the Anderson Store to be opened as a museum in 1967 and later serving as honorary chairman of the Iverson House Campaign leading to its purchase in 2001.

In our gifting, Prilla and I want to insure that the EHF continues to be successful in saving, restoring and interpreting for future generations Ephraim’s storied history.
